ROCHFORD TEMPLE ROOF.
The recent wet weather has again caused problems with leaks. Previously this has in the main been because the gulley/gutter had been blocked, causing the rain water to rise higher than the curve of the covering and seep down the wall at the back. This was easily resolved by cleaning the gulley/gutters.
However this time, on inspection from on the roof, it was noticed that a small puddle had accumulated in the middle. Further inspection by a builder made it necessary to remove part of the plaster in the ceiling to find out the cause.
An inspection by a Structural Engineer showed that the iron part of the original 'flitch' joint had cracked, causing the roof to 'dip'; thus forming the puddle.
As a safety measure, special props have been put into place. The Structural Engineer has directed their positioning and bracing.
Your Board of Directors are ensuring that the investigations continue and have convened a special sub-committee comprised of relevant experienced members of the Board.
English Heritage are also sending an engineer from Chelmsford.
As and when further information is to hand it will be communicated via this web site and to Secretaries.
